Volunteer befrienders are needed to offer companionship to an older person living in their own home. This is an excellent opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of others.
The role involves visiting an older person who may be lonely and isolated, providing company and conversation, sharing a 'cuppa', and if appropriate going out for a walk or short trip.
Volunteers may also provide short-term practical and emotional support if, for example, they have come home after hospital treatment such as picking up prescriptions, library books, basic shopping etc.
Frequency of visiting varies but generally no more than once a week.
No specific skills are required however a caring and responsible approach is essential.
