Choir Chaperone

Chaperones are an integral part of the running of the cathedral choir and we are extremely grateful for all their support. The role is wide-ranging and rewarding, especially as the chaperones get to know the choristers better, supporting the children in all their activities at the cathedral.

Their main responsibility is to chaperone rehearsals and choir events involving children on a rostered basis. They are a second adult responsible for the pastoral care and well-being of the under-18s present, and keep an eye out for children who may have any issues. They are both a quiet presence during choir rehearsals and services, and an active staff helper (for example, serving refreshments before rehearsals). The role is voluntary, and can fit around other commitments; however, it is expected that chaperones are willing to be available at least twice a month.

Bradford Cathedral is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. All post holders and volunteers are expected to share this commitment.

Skills

This role is well suited to those who want to gain experience of volunteering, working with and managing children, safeguarding, and working as part of a cathedral music department. The role lends itself to many skills desired by employers; including working with others, communication, making effective decisions and personal development. However, this role is not limited to those seeking to gain experience - we are happy to welcome anyone of any age who works well with children and who has a kind and warm manner, whilst being able to stay calm under pressure.
