The Community Support volunteers are an amazing group of people who are supporting paid staff from Bradford Council and the Voluntary Sector to work in community areas to talk to people about their concerns around Covid19, vaccines, self-isolating and to encourage them to take tests. This work has had a real impact helping to drive down infection rates across the district but we still need volunteers to continue and expand what has been achieved so far.
You will be part of a team of two - talking to people to offer advice, finding out their concerns and providing information in a friendly and approachable way. Your colleague will then guide the householder through the home testing process[GB2] . This work takes place on people’s doorsteps and complies with all Covid safety measures. The ability to speak a second language would be useful but is not essential.
Still not sure if this is for you? This is what one volunteer had to say about her volunteering:
“I feel as though I’m doing something that can help make a difference during this really challenging time. You’re not paid with money but you get a different type of payment, the feel good payment, that you’re making a difference - you can’t put price on that feeling”
You can undertake a morning (9.30 – 1.00) or afternoon shift (1.30 – 5.30). A good level of physical fitness is required and a willingness to work outside is essential. Full training will be given prior to starting and all volunteers will be provided with ID, appropriate PPE and all out of pocket expenses.
Good communicator, ability to speak a community language would be an advantage but is not essential
