End of Life (EoL) Befriending Project is funded by Bradford and District CCG
and delivered across Bradford City by three community anchors: Girlington
Community Centre, Trident and the Thornbury Centre supported by Bradford VCS
As part of the initiative we are looking to recruit EoL befrienders to work with patients on a one to one basis, via telephone initially to comply with current Covid-19 restrictions, but will move to face to face in the future.
We are looking for EoL befrienders (18+) who are positive, reliable, good listeners, approachable and non-judgemental.
Some of the duties include: -
• Get to know the client and let the client get to know them • Listen to the client and discuss what is worrying them • Value their opinions and beliefs • Encourage them to achieve things that are important to them before their death • Talk about relevant experiences/problems they have overcome (if appropriate) • Encourage clients and perhaps their family/ carers to talk and think about and plan for key tasks • Signpost and link people to relevant support
You will receive training and support whilst undertaking the role.
The skills required for the role are as follows:-
- Be honest and trustworthy - Be caring and empathetic - Be a good listener - Have good communication skills - Respect confidentiality - Be reliable - Non-judgemental - Be available to attend training and supervision - Be able to give a minimum of 3 months commitment to the befriendee
