Holiday Club Support Worker – Positive Activities

  • Main purpose of role:
  • To be involved in the service delivery of Holiday Club projects for children and young people aged 8 – 14 years old.
  • Encourage children and young people to participate in activities, have fun and enjoy themselves.
  • Support or deliver fun and creative activities, which excite and inspire children, allowing them to have a variety of experiences. 

Responsibilities, duties and tasks:

  • The Holiday Club Support Worker will work as part of a team of paid and voluntary staff led by the Holiday Club Leader.
  • Engage with young people 8 -14 years old and deliver a diverse pre-planned programme of activities.
  • To support the setting up and tidying up process of each session.
  • Share responsibility for supporting and delivering activities within the Holiday club project, which are fun and educational.
  • Organise recreational activities to engage young people including arts and craft, cooking, sports and music.
  • Support catering staff to serve food to children and young people.
  • To establish and build relationships with young people
  • To deliver positive activities that will help meet the identified needs of the young people and families accessing the project.
  • Responsible for ensuring themselves and other staff are taking positive actions to safeguard young people they come into contact with.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information about all young people and families attending the project.
  • Operate within professional boundaries when developing and maintaining relationships with young people, families and the wider community.
  • Carry out relevant day to day administration in support of the smooth running of the project.
    Work as part of a strong team, committed to excellent service delivery.
  • To follow the policies and procedures of Prentice Hill.
  • To undertake such other duties which are consistent with the general level of responsibility for this job.
  • To undertake health and safety duties.
  • Attend and participate in appropriate training as required or as directed.

Staff will be required to complete an enhanced DBS check and must complete mandatory training.

Reporting to: Holiday Club Leader

Support: Centre staff

Skills

Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to help deliver a pre-planned programme of activities for young people aged 8-14.
  • Have an imaginative and enthusiastic approach and use initiative to deliver structured activities.
  • Have good communication skills and the ability and confidence to establish positive relationships with young people.
  • Can motivate young people to participate in activities.
  • Preferably has skills and expertise, which can be usefully utilised in the holiday club Support work project, e.g. music, arts and craft, sports.
  • The ability to prioritise effectively and able to multi-task in a busy environment.
  • Able to relate to young people and adults positively.
  • Has an understanding of equality and diversity.
  • Has the ability to challenge discriminatory behaviour.
  • Can demonstrate the ability to work in a team.


Experience: We are looking to recruit individuals who have experience working with young people in an informal setting. However you may be looking for your first role working with children and young people and would like to gain more experience.

Special Factors: New staff are expected to complete the essential training. Eligible to work in the UK with young people.
