Trustee

Do you want to make a difference? Are you interested in helping to promote a peaceful future, by sharing stories of Peace from the past and present?

The Peace Museum explores the history and untold stories of peace, peacemakers, and peace movements in this country and around the world. The Peace Museum was established in Bradford over 25 years ago. We are moving to stunning new premises at Salts Mill, in Saltaire, for opening in Summer 2024. Salts Mill is a bustling World Heritage Site welcoming many thousands of visitors a year.

The Peace Museum is seeking new trustees to join the Board of Directors during an exciting time of transition as we move to our new home.

What’s in it for you? • The chance to develop new skills and experience, especially of strategic and senior level decision making processes • The opportunity to meet new people, becoming part of a friendly team of up to 12 Trustees • A chance to make a difference to the culture, locally and nationally. You will help shape the way the museum operates and works with all our visitors.

What does a Peace Museum Trustee do? • Trustees need to attend and take part in Board meetings. We have a mixture of online and in-person meetings in Bradford. In-person meetings happen up to 4 times a year on Saturdays. Zoom meetings happen on mid-week evenings. You will need to respond to emails between meetings. • There will be opportunities to take part in groups that fit your own expertise; you might like to suggest some! • The Board of Trustees works together to make sure a charity stays true to its mission. Trustees use their skills and experience to support the charity and help it achieve its aims. • The Trustee role is a voluntary, unpaid, position, but you can claim back legitimate expenses, such as travel to the Board meetings.

The most successful Boards are made up of a people from a wide range of backgrounds and with varied life experiences. We welcome people from all backgrounds and ethnicities to apply, including but not limited to, young people aged 18-24, people of the global majority and people with disabilities, who are all currently underrepresented on our Board of Trustees.

Alongside general Trustees we are also recruiting for a Company Secretary and Board Administrator, please refer to the separate listing for information about this vacancy.
