Join the fight for fair renting – and help create real change.
At Shelter, the housing and homelessness charity, we’re fighting for a future where everyone has a safe, secure, and fair place to live — and renters are at the heart of that fight.
Right now, millions of people are trapped in an unfair rental system. Rents are rising. Families are being uprooted. Discrimination is rife. And renters are losing their homes through no fault of their own. The government has promised to fix this through the Renters’ Rights Bill but unless renters speak up, those promises risk being watered down. That’s where you come in.
We’re bringing together private renters from across England to become Renting Champions, a group of renters ready to speak out and push for the changes we urgently need.
What you’ll do:
• Meet with MPs and Peers
• Share your story
• Help shape the campaign
• Hold the government to its promises
• Co-design digital and in-person campaign actions
• Speak in local and national media about the Renters’ Reform Bill campaign
What’s involved:
• Around 2–3 hours a month, flexible and online
• Campaign actions shaped by you
• Supported by Shelter’s campaign team
• Expenses and training provided
Who we’re looking for:
We want this campaign to reflect the reality of renting in England today. We’re especially keen to hear from people most affected by the crisis — including those from migrant, the global majority and LGBTQI+ communities. If you’ve faced discrimination, unaffordable rent, or insecure housing — your voice can help change the system.
