About
About SARAG
We are an independent charity supporting individuals with asbestos-related conditions across Yorkshire, Humberside, and North Nottinghamshire. Our ultimate aim is to provide support to all asbestos victims and their families across our region.
Since 1999, we have helped thousands of families affected by asbestos-related conditions access £32 million in Government benefits and compensation.
We support our clients in three main areas:
We provide Expert Benefits Advice. In 2022/3 alone, we helped 311 Individuals with asbestos-related conditions access £4.3million in Government benefits and compensation. Individuals accessing our service are on average £13,500 better off because of our help.
We provide Emotional Support. We provide peer support in monthly social groups across the region. We also provide 1:1 emotional support and bereavement support, face to face, by telephone and online. Our support reduces loneliness, isolation and improves overall wellbeing.
We provide Legal Signposting. We signpost to specialist asbestos solicitors who all provide a no win no fee service and importantly, do not take a success fee.
Despite a total ban on asbestos products in 1999, Asbestos remains the UK’s largest workplace killer. Sadly, thousands continue to die from Asbestos-related diseases in the UK each year because there is a 15-to-60-year latency period between exposure and illness. Our charity receives around 350 referrals per year, but we aim to meet the potential demand of around 500. This is an opportunity to help our charity to grow!
