The BrightBites programme, which is ran in collaboration with both Simplyhealth & Denplan, is an oral health education scheme for children up to 11 years old. Volunteers visit schools, nurseries, childcare organisations and holiday clubs to deliver a lively, interactive presentation which covers toothbrushing, teeth names and functions, sugar awareness and the importance of regular dental appointments. Where possible, parents are invited along to learn about oral health alongside their children.
We need volunteers who are willing to go along to these childcare locations which work with young children and their families to deliver the project. We would really like to target areas of high social deprivation where the oral health needs of children are often greater, therefore we are relying on volunteer’s local knowledge to target these areas. We would like volunteers to get in touch with the schools, nurseries and groups to offer to go along and deliver the BrightBites programme.
To support the session, BrightBites volunteers are supplied with a range of resources for both you, the children and teachers: • Leaflets, stickers & posters. • Every child receives a toothbrush and toothpaste tube. • Demonstration mouth model with toothbrush. • White Dentaid t-shirt. • Powerpoint presentation.
