The University of Leeds have recently launched a regional hub (Yorkshire and Humber) for the national Climate Ambassadors programme; a Department for Education funded volunteering scheme as part of their Sustainability and Climate Change Strategy.
Climate Ambassadors are a network of trained volunteers from across the private, public and charity sectors who support nurseries, schools and colleges with free, tailored guidance to progress their Climate Action Plans, wherever they are on their sustainability journey. By helping make climate and sustainability education more widely available to all young people, Climate Ambassador volunteers support the education sector to reduce its climate impact and become more resilient.
The Yorkshire and Humber regional hub will support volunteers through training to ensure individuals are supported in their role. Please contact climateambassadors_yh@leeds.ac.uk if you have questions about the requirements for the role.

Climate Ambassadors must be willing to develop a lasting relationship with an educational setting to support them with climate action. Whilst training will be provided, volunteers must be motivated to progress climate action across four key areas; decarbonisation, biodiversity, climate adaptation and; climate education. Volunteers must feel confident in working with others, providing advice and guidance and also communicating climate change issues.
Volunteers will complete a DBS check, core Ambassador training and also access further upskilling modules such as Carbon Literacy training and a Sustainability Leadership course all free of charge.
