We are a local charity with a vision to see isolated and vulnerable older people from across the Bradford District, cared for and connected. We support those aged 60+ at risk of losing their independence, and regularly engage those with poor health, dementia and complex needs.
We have opportunities for volunteers based at St Mary’s Church Hall, Green Lane, Wyke, BD12 8QH, on Tuesdays between 9.30am and 2pm, and on the last Friday of every month between 10.30am and 1.30pm.
The role would involve setting up the room and facilities for the support group (this would involve little or no strenuous lifting), welcoming the attendees and getting them settled with a hot drink, assisting the group facilitator with the activity, sitting the group down for lunch and interacting with them throughout the sessions. After lunch the volunteer would be required to help tidy away items and serve a hot drink to attendees before the end of the session. The group ranges from 10-15 local older people, is very friendly, welcoming and supported by staff members. It is a great opportunity to help support a worthy local cause, improve well-being, socialise and gain catering related experience.
There may sometimes be a requirement to assist in the kitchen area as and when needed to help the cook. Food Hygiene training can be provided for all volunteers, also a hot lunch and travel expenses.
