The role in a nutshell:
Be the first friendly face greeting customers, keeping the shop clean and tidy, assisting with queries, and supporting the shop team by promoting initiatives like the Age UK raffle and lottery.
What will you be doing?
With this being a key role in delivering customer service throughout your volunteering shift your key tasks are:
Assisting Customers with their purchases and providing excellent customer service.
Promoting Gift aid – Explain to customers what Gift Aid is, how it helps us get more money from the items they donate for us to sell, and ask if they would like to sign up.
Keeping the shop floor clean and tidy –for a pleasant shopping experience.
Talking with Customers –about the work Age UK completes for older people, encouraging donations and volunteering through word of mouth.
Displaying stock –in an eye-catching fashion and exciting ways to attract customers effectively.
How would you be supported in this role?
You will receive a mixture of e-learning and practical, on-the-job training to help you get started. Ongoing support, refresher training, and guidance will be available, and reasonable out-of-pocket expenses related to your volunteering role will be reimbursed in line with Age UK policies.
Why do we need volunteers in this role?
Customer service roles are vital to the success of retail shops, helping to raise essential funds. Having individuals trained on the till supports the wider team, keeps daily operations running smoothly, enhances the customer experience, and allows others to focus on preparing and presenting stock effectively.
