YMCA has been working in Bradford for over 160 years supporting children, you people and families to belong, contribute and thrive. We focus on young people and help them play an active and fulfilling role with their communities.
YMCA Shaping Futures is a programme for young people, aged 16-25, who would benefit from being involved in positive activities with other young people one day per week. Meeting on Tuesdays at Culture Fusion in BD1, the group will work together to plan, organise and do social actions (for example, tidying a community garden, tackling a local issue that affects people, campaigning, etc), supported by experienced Youth Workers. Through their social actions they will have a positive impact in Bradford, increasing their pride in Bradford and themselves and developing positive relationships with others in the community.
Through working on social actions, participants will develop their ‘soft
skills’, such as teamwork, communication, listening, leadership, problem
solving, and time management. They will also be supported by staff to build
their confidence, think about their future options, and plan their next steps,
plus there will be opportunities for one-to-one support as needs are
identified.
To be eligible, young people need to be:
- aged between 16 and 25
- not in employment, education or training, or
at risk of being NEET
- available on Tuesdays
